My Story

Changing perspective can change your life.

I understand what you are feeling – A diagnosis of breast cancer brings a feeling of disbelief about is this really happening? fear, uncertainty, about your future and where this is all leading.

And I understand all diagnosis are unique, that it is, only happening to you but I want to re-assure you, you are not alone and in fact when I was diagnosed in 2017, 1 in 7 women were being diagnosed with Breast Cancer. I am one of 8 siblings in which 6 are sisters so the odds were always going to be there.

In April 2017, facing the loss of my beautiful mum, a remarkable woman who was the most influential person in my life. Mum had 8 children and 5 of them were under 5 by the time she was 21.

She had a tough life, and it made her such a strong woman, and I trusted & loved her more than anyone else in my world. To not have her here during my diagnosis was heartbreaking, but also, I felt a sense of relief she didn’t have to endure or go through this with me. Being spiritual I knew she was never far away and seeing butterflies in my garden always gave me a sense of peace knowing she was around.

Then in November 2017 I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer, to say I was shocked is an understatement, even saying the F bomb to my specialist when he delivered the news.  There was no beating around the bush with him and he told me in no uncertain terms what I was to expect.  My head was spinning and my poor husband Steve just sat there.  We had no words.

The one thing that made a difference to my recovery and my own peace of mind, for me, was my love of photography and inspirational quotes.

I’d love to share one of my mantras with you to let you know “You are strong, you are beautiful, and you can do this” whatever you may be facing, you can do this!

The loss of mum and being diagnosed within the same year left an enormous impact on me but where it started was years before whilst going through what I now know as Menopause.

Turning 50 was a time of upheaval but also a time of self-discovery.   Yes, menopause is real and yes it can hurt like crazy. Some sail through it, some have a roller-coaster ride and that was me.

Things were happening at home, I’m sure now looking back it was all part of preparing me for the hardest time of my life.  I went to Bali on a 3-month sabbatical.  It was my way of taking control of my life when I knew at home it was falling apart.  I practiced Yoga, learned  Bahasa and met some amazing people.  All of them taught me lessons, some hard but mostly good life lessons. Another mantra learned from a Hindu friend “You can’t have the good without the bad.”

It was a Ying/Yang moment of realisation and I hope to tell you more as I delve deep into my journey & story. I hope you will join me over in my Blog.

I know this is a cliché, but I genuinely want you to know, if I can give you one bit of advice, “It's a journey.” and if you're here reading this, it is yours to travel.

I hope I can help make it easier for you by sharing my story.
